Durham County Council has sanctioned plans for homebuilder Persimmon’s new housing development in Crook, England, UK.

The development, named Mown Meadows, is expected to bring investment to the area.

It will include 256 new homes catering to local families, first-time buyers, and those looking to downsize.

To be situated off High West Road, the project will feature homes ranging from two to five bedrooms, along with 26 single-storey bungalows designed for older residents.

In addition, all homes will be equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging points and constructed in accordance with new building regulations.

These regulations aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve energy efficiency, which will also contribute to lower energy bills for homeowners.

The project will also offer residents more than 16 acres of usable public open space.

In a move to support affordable housing, 38 of the properties will be allocated to a local housing association or sold at a reduced market rate.

Persimmon Durham land and planning manager Adam McVickers said: “We’re delighted that Durham County Council has granted permission for 256 new homes on our Mown Meadows development.

“Persimmon is committed to building high-quality, affordable homes for local people, and this development provides a mix of house sizes for families and downsizers alike.”

As part of the planning agreement, Persimmon is expected to contribute more than £800,000 ($1.23m) to the local authority.

This contribution will enhance a range of local services, including healthcare and education, contingent upon the finalisation of the section 106 agreement.

It is expected to provide a 16% increase in on-site biodiversity and will include a comprehensive planting scheme with more than 3,000 new trees.

In December last year, Persimmon Homes Essex received approval from Tendring District Council for a project in Clacton, England, UK.
