Persimmon Homes files plans for community square in Plymouth

The Main Square is set to receive community feedback on its concept and design.

December 20 2023

Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon has filed planning proposals to Plymouth City Council for a new community square in Plymouth, UK.

Named the Main Square, this community square is part of the overarching Saltram Meadow development, a major housing project being built on a vacant quarry off Billacombe Road.

The Main Square will serve as the community hub for Saltram Meadow. It is scheduled to be built in three different phases.

The initial phase will be centred on constructing parking facilities for both commercial and residential units.

The second phase will focus on the open area's layout and play portions.

The third phase will consist of developing building components, which will include health facilities, retail spaces, and residences.

The builder also announced its plans to host a community engagement event for feedback on the layout of the Main Square and its future phases.

This event will allow the public to view and comment on designs for the development.

The development will also feature a grassy area for recreational activities, which will include a 1,000m² play space and a pavilion overlooking the main garden and amphitheatre.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon technical director Robbie Brown said: “We’re proud of the developing community at Saltram Meadow to date, and we eagerly anticipate delivering more homes and essential community facilities, including commercial spaces, public areas, bike stores and amphitheatre.

“We would urge any local resident who wants to take a look at the plans to do so at this early stage, and we welcome all constructive discussion that ensures that Saltram Meadow is the best place it can be.”
