Stockholm Vatten och Avfall (SVOA) has contracted Nordic company Peab to upgrade a wastewater treatment plant at Henriksdal in Stockholm, Sweden.

The contract, valued at Skr368m ($32.4m), is part of a larger initiative to modernise the city's wastewater treatment system.

The latest project includes building a new sewage tunnel from Bromma to the Sickla plant in Hammarbybacken.

The project also includes the construction of a new plant in Sickla and the reconstruction of existing basins in Henriksdal.

Peab's role in this project will involve the reconstruction of the plant to accommodate an updated biological treatment process.

The plant will remain operational throughout the upgrade.

Peab region manager Carl Johan Söderberg said: "We’re pleased with the continued confidence in us from Stockholm Vatten och Avfall and that now we’ll begin to work on rebuilding Henriksdal's wastewater treatment plant.

“Through continued good cooperation we’ll make sure that the treatment plant functions with minimal disruption during construction."

The project is anticipated to commence in April this year, with completion expected by 2028.

Earlier this month, Peab received a contract to renovate Lunden School in Gothenburg, Sweden, from the Gothenburg City Property Administration.

The project, valued at Skr275m, is set to begin soon, with completion expected in early 2027.

Last month, Peab also secured a contract to build a new central kitchen for Palvelukeskus Helsinki in Vantaa, Finland.
