Nordic community builder Peab has received a contract to construct Fremmerholen's new wastewater treatment facility in Ålesund, Norway.

Ålesund Municipality has commissioned Peab for this contract, which is valued at Nkr202m.

Construction is set to begin later this month, with the plant expected to become operational in late 2026.

Ålesund Municipality's current wastewater treatment building serves approximately 70,000 residents.

The new facility will provide clean water access to Ålesund and its neighbouring areas.

Peab will be responsible for constructing a processing facility, a two-storey pump station, as well as the plant itself.

It will also oversee the groundwork and plumbing installations for the project.

Environmental standards have put been in place due to the construction site's proximity to a drinking water source.

The construction sites are aimed to be fossil-free and most of the work will be handled by Peab's own workers.

Peab Norway region manager Kjetil Nordang said: “We’re proud to contribute to ensuring a reliable supply of clean water to residents in the area. Peab will deliver high-quality infrastructure that will serve the local community for many years ahead.

“We look forward to working closely with the municipality to carry out this project efficiently, safely and sustainably.”

The company will register this project in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Peab has also secured a shared contract to build a new fire and emergency station in Norrköping, Sweden, earlier this month.
