Peab secures two construction contracts in Finland

Both contracts will be included in Peab's order bookings for Q3 2023.

Nordic construction company Peab has secured two new construction projects, a primary school expansion in Finland’s Lempäälä municipality, and the development of two apartment units alongside a parking garage in Helsinki.

Located in the Sääksjärvi school district of Lempäälä, the primary school expansion project has been awarded by the municipality and has an estimated value of €15m ($15.91m).

The 5,000m² project involves the construction of new classrooms, and sports facilities comprising an area of 360m².

The extension will be developed following the RTS Environmental Classification following approval by an external auditor.

Lempäälä municipality construction manager Ulla Palo-Oja stated: “The extension of Sääksjärvi school district has long been awaited and we look forward to working together with Peab.

“It will give us a functional, modern and safe school. Developing the school fits in well with the current development of the centre of Sääksjärvi.”

Construction work is set to begin by the end of 2023 and be completed in early 2025.

Peab will enter this contract in its order bookings for the third quarter (Q3) of 2023.

The Housing Association of Helsinki has also awarded Peab a contract to construct two apartment units and a parking area in Verkkosaari, Helsinki.

This turnkey contract is valued at €15m.

The HEKA Pilkkikuja 2 project will see the development of two apartment buildings spanning six and seven floors respectively, with a parking space on the ground floor.

The company will construct 26 parking spots, a commercial complex and 65 apartment units. There will be a small square built between the two buildings and an interior patio included on top of the garage.

Geothermic energy - an energy-efficient and cost-effective form of renewable energy - will be used to heat the buildings.

Peab region manager Ilkka Laakeristo stated: “This project is a great continuation of the project we started in Verkkosaari this summer and gives us the opportunity to intensify our collaboration. We’re also glad we can contribute to more housing in Verkkosaari.”

Construction works will begin in October 2023 and are expected to be completed in June 2025.

This contract will also be booked by Peab in its order bookings for Q3 2023.

South-East Asia Construction Market Dynamics

Per GlobalData analysis, the South-East Asia construction industry in 2023 is dominated by Indonesia, though the country will see a slowdown compared to 2022 due to elevated building material prices, weak commercial property demand, high interest rates and a softening of external demand. The construction industry in the Philippines is estimated to register a AAGR of 7.2% between 2024 and 2027, supported by the government’s focus on the development of the country’s rail and road transport and energy infrastructure.
