Peab has secured a contract to build a new office building for LKAB in Kiruna, Sweden, valued at Skr459m ($41.96m).

The office, spanning 11,550m² across five floors, will include a 60-space garage and a bomb shelter for 420 people.

Incorporating LKAB's essence, the building's design features steel columns, railings, and fittings, reflecting the company's mining operations.

The interior design takes inspiration from mines, with hanging walls and protruding floors while the open-plan office offers various views and a warm atmosphere through natural materials.

Peab will register the project order in the fourth quarter of 2024. The turnkey project is set to commence in early 2025, with completion expected in 2028.

Peab, a Nordic community builder, employs 14,000 people and has its headquarters in Förslöv, Sweden.

Peab obtained a Skr118m contract last month for the construction of LKAB’s critical minerals extraction demonstration plant in Luleå, Sweden.

Additionally, Peab secured a Nkr104m contract to construct a new office building for Kolvika Brygge in Nørvevika, Ålesund, Norway.

Peab region manager Susanne Hallberg said: "It’s fantastic that we with our local organisation continue to expand Kiruna city centre, this time with a new and aesthetically appealing office building for LKAB."

LKAB Kiruna area manager Magnus Backe said: "The building will be a hallmark of Kiruna just like our current office building and a significant addition to Kiruna city centre. Using materials we ourselves contribute to producing and reflecting our mine in the building’s design is a beautiful thing that ties it to our history."
