Nordic community builder Peab has been awarded a contract for the construction of adapted housing and a daytime activity centre in Harstad, Norway.

This housing and activity centre will be built by Peab on behalf of Harstad Municipality.

The turnkey contract is said to be worth Nkr114m.

The scope of work involves the construction of care homes with a gross area of 1,450m² for people with disabilities at Gangsås in Harstad, as well as an activity centre with a gross area of 1,350m².

The care homes and daytime activity centre will comprise two buildings with two storeys.

As the housing will be monitored 24 hours a day, the buildings will feature areas dedicated to staff.

The contract also encompasses work on the surrounding area.

Peab district manager Trygve Nilsen said: “We’re very pleased to continue our great collaboration with Harstad Municipality. Peab will make life easier for people with disabilities by building adapted housing and a daytime activity centre. This project in Harstad is very important to us.”

Construction will begin soon, with the project scheduled to be completed by April 2025.

Peab will register this contract in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Harstad Municipality project manager Raymond Knudsen was quoted by Byggeindustrien bygg.no as saying: “The day centre will provide people with functional impairments with a varied range of activities in suitable premises.

“We have used Peab Bjørn Bygg on several large construction projects and know the contractor as flexible and solution-oriented, with a focus on progress and a good final product.”

Last month, Peab signed a contract to build a new fire station and an associated training pitch at Eriksberg in Hallstahammar, Sweden.
