Nordic community builder Peab has secured a shared contract to build a new fire and emergency station in Norrköping, Sweden.

Awarded by Norrköping Municipality, the contract is worth €132m.

Peab will be responsible for the groundwork and construction of the new building.

The new fire and emergency station is being built as the existing facility at South Promenade, which was constructed in 1940, is said to now be unsuitable for delivering emergency services.

Peab region manager Anders Bergeling said: “We’re very pleased and proud to have won the commission to build Norrköping Municipality’s new and modern fire and emergency station.

“We intend to deliver a top-class station that completely fulfils the high demands concerning security and the environment.”

More specifically, construction will include a garage and radio tower at the new facility to be built at Ljurafältet in Norrköping, close to the E22 onramp.

The main building will house a garage, a gym, a kitchen, offices, resting areas, and a sauna.

Additionally, Peab will construct a secondary building to accommodate the garage and other installations.

The frame for the station will be primarily made from cross-laminated timber created from renewable materials in an energy-efficient process, minimising its climate impact.

The roof will have its own solar panels and include sedums, allowing the station to generate its own electricity and water. The station will also serve as a vital water source for Norrköping's residents in the event of a crisis.

Construction is expected to be completed in August 2025.

The company will book this contract in its order bookings for Q4 2023.
