Nordic community builder Peab has secured a turnkey contract to construct a new dock in Skelleftehamn, Sweden. 

Commissioned by Skellefteå Municipality, the contract is worth Skr1,132m ($108.43m), which will be executed in partnership. 

The new dock, covering 7,700m², is noted to be a key part of the overarching community development of Skellefteå Municipality. 

It will enable the port to receive larger vessels, which is a requirement for the industrial investment underway in both Skellefteå and the broader region. 

Skellefteå Municipality project management function head Thérese Bäckström Zidoli said: “After extensive preparatory work, we’re looking forward to starting construction of the project.  

“Together with Peab, we’ll work actively to reduce climate impact in production and prepare the dock for fossil-free operations.” 

The construction project involves dredging, piling, erosion protection, and concrete work, alongside the provision of additional equipment for the dock.  

Peab region manager Jörgen Eriksson said: “This is a technically advanced marine project where we can use our entire pallet of expertise and contribute to a vital function for Skellefteå and the region.  

“It’s both exciting and very important to be a part of this investment the municipality is making for community development.” 

Construction is scheduled to commence this month, with completion anticipated for the end of 2027.  

The project will be officially registered by Peab in the first quarter of 2024. 

Last month, Peab secured another turnkey contract to build a new swimming pool facility in Leknes, Norway.
