Building materials producer Partanna has partnered with Saudi Readymix (SRM) to test carbon-negative concrete at SRM’s facility in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Readymix is a domestic ready-mixed concrete producer.
The latest collaboration marks a step in Partanna’s move towards sustainable construction practices.
During a full-shift operation, Partanna's carbon-negative binder was seamlessly integrated with SRM's existing aggregate to produce concrete blocks.
This method eliminated the use of traditional Portland cement.
The produced concrete blocks are said to have been tested by ACES, a materials and technology company, and have met the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization's requirements.
This validation underscores the reliability and effectiveness of Partanna's solution in reducing the construction sector's carbon footprint.
Partanna co-founder and CEO Rick Fox said: “We are beyond pleased with the successful completion of our test run in collaboration with Saudi Readymix, a testament to Partanna's capacity as a seamless, plug-and-play solution for sustainable construction.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Saudi Readymix for their openness and willingness to innovate alongside us. Their partnership not only underscores the feasibility of our carbon-negative technology in the real world but also propels us forward in our mission.”
Partanna's solution is expected to pave the path for cuts in the construction industry's carbon footprint.
The company anticipates the broad adoption of its technology.
SRM technical director Chris Leptokaridis said: “Partanna has brought to the table a powerful innovation that aligns perfectly with Saudi Readymix's vision for sustainable and forward-thinking construction solutions.
“We are truly impressed by the efficacy and environmental benefits of Partanna's carbon-negative technology, and how it supports the kingdom’s Vision 2030.”
