A joint venture of Parsons and Vanir have been selected to provide construction management and inspection (CMI) services for the Sacramento International Airport's SMForward programme.

The contract, which has been awarded by the Sacramento County Department of Airports in the US, is valued at approximately $30m.

It is valid for a period of the next five years.

SMForward, a $1.3bn airport improvement initiative, includes terminal gate expansions and landside projects.

These enhancements aim to support the airport's growth and modernisation efforts, aligning with the Sacramento County Department of Airports' efforts to improve passenger convenience, comfort, as well as accessibility.

Launched in February of the previous year, SMForward is set to reshape the airport in anticipation of increased passenger numbers over the next seven years.

The Parsons/Vanir joint venture (PVJV) will oversee the construction management and inspection services for several key developments.

PVJV's responsibilities encompass a range of projects, including a new parking structure with the capacity for an additional 4,500-5,500 spaces west of Terminal B, a new Consolidated Rental Car Facility, and additional gates at both Terminal A and B.

It further includes roadway improvements and a passenger skywalk to Concourse B.

Parsons Infrastructure North America president Mark Fialkowski said: “We bring decades of experience in aviation engineering, programme management, and consulting services, as well as innovative solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

"We look forward to working with our team and the airport stakeholders to deliver SMForward and create a world-class travel experience for the Sacramento community and visitors.”

Construction of the new parking structure is set to commence in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024, with the airport's opening projected for Q4 2026.

Meanwhile, the Concourse B Expansion is expected to begin in Q3 2025 and open in Q1 2028.

The timeline for the Consolidated Rental Car Center facility's construction is set for late 2025, with the opening date yet to be confirmed.
