Boom Supersonic has announced the completion of construction of the Overture Superfactory at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, US. 

This milestone was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. 

The Overture Superfactory is said to be the first supersonic airliner factory in the country. 

It is set to produce Boom's Overture airliners, which are said to have the capacity to fly at twice the speed of current commercial aircraft and can operate on up to 100% sustainable aviation fuel.

Boom Supersonic founder and CEO Blake Scholl said: “Construction of the Overture Superfactory represents a major milestone toward ensuring the United States' continued leadership in aerospace manufacturing. 

“Supersonic flight will transform air travel, and Overture provides a much-needed innovative alternative for airlines across the globe.” 

The initial assembly line at the Overture Superfactory is expected to have the capacity to manufacture 33 Overture aircraft annually, with a combined value exceeding $6bn.  

Boom Supersonic has plans to expand its production capabilities with an additional assembly line, aiming to double the factory's output to 66 aircraft per year.  

The campus will also feature a delivery centre for airlines such as United Airlines, American Airlines, and Japan Airlines to receive their supersonic aircraft. 

The Overture Superfactory, constructed by BE&K Building Group and designed by BRPH, aims to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. 

It is anticipated to be at least 40% more energy efficient than comparable manufacturing sites.  

With the construction phase concluded, Boom's next step is to make the site's production floor operational. 

In collaboration with tooling supplier Advanced Integration Technology, Boom will commence the installation of equipment within the factory. 

The first installation will be a test cell unit, which will develop manufacturing processes, refine the assembly line flow, and train staff for the production of the Overture aircraft. 

The latest announcement comes after the inaugural flight of XB-1, the supersonic demonstrator aircraft for Boom.
