Orion Group Holdings, a speciality construction company, has secured concrete and marine building contracts across the states of Florida and Texas in the US.

The projects, scheduled to start in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024, are expected to last between nine to 12 months.

The company has secured a more than $28m contract within its Concrete business segment with Costco Wholesale, through Southeast Industrial Construction as the general contractor.

This competitive bid win entails the construction of the first phase of the Port Saint Lucie Costco Depot, a distribution centre in south-east Florida.

The facility, which is said to become one of Costco's largest, marks Orion's 16th project with the retail giant.

The scope of the project includes the placement of more than 100,000 cubic yards of concrete to construct a 550,000ft² tilt-wall dry/cold storage facility and nearly three million square feet of concrete paving.

Orion Group Holdings CEO Travis Boone said: “We are pleased to have been selected as a trusted partner on these key concrete and marine construction projects. Since expanding our Concrete business to Florida, the Costco project is the first large award in this region. This most recent data centre win is our 20th to date.”

Orion Concrete has been commissioned a data centre project in North Texas, valued at approximately $15m, by a hyperscaler.

In its Marine division, Orion has also been granted a $20m marine construction project by Port Tampa Bay.

The project involves the construction of the new 481ft by 125ft Berth 218, designed to handle bulk materials.

It will feature additional breasting dolphins, walkways connecting to the shore, and onshore high-wind mooring points.

Boone added: “We are excited to deepen our relationship with Port Tampa Bay, a longstanding client for decades. This project is a prime example of the infrastructure upgrades needed throughout our country’s ports to diversify and expand port capabilities.”
