The South al Sharqiyah Governorate in Oman has signed contracts worth OR26.3m ($68.1m) for various municipal sector projects.

These developments are part of an initiative to bolster infrastructure and promote urban and economic growth across the region's wilayats (provinces), according to a press release posted on Zawya.

The contracts encompass the construction of a 149.2km internal road network connecting the wilayats of Sur, Al Kamil, Al Wafi, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, Jalan Bani Bu Ali, and Masirah.

This network aims to improve connectivity within interior zones and support urban development.

Additionally, the initiative includes the improvement of mountain roads in the wilayat of Sur, covering areas such as Qaab, Abbat, Al Manqal, and Al Jila village in the Niyabat of Tiwi.

The rehabilitation and development of road paths within the wilayat of Sur also form part of the contracts, as part of the governorate's commitment to sustainable development and meeting the population's needs.

A notable project is the development of the waterfront in the Niyabat of Al Ashkhara, which spans 74,172m² and will feature integrated entertainment and sports facilities.

The initiative also involves lighting the coastal road from Ras al Hadd to Al Ashkhara with modern technologies to improve night services and traffic safety.

Meanwhile, Al Suwaih Park in the wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali is set to become an integrated entertainment destination, complete with tourist facilities, a children's play area, and camping spaces.

Further developments include a tourist facility in the Saiq area of the wilayat of Al Kamil and Al Wafi.

The contract signing also marked the establishment of the Al Shamkhiya Multipurpose Centre in the wilayat of Masirah for cultural and social activities.

Furthermore, four contracts have been signed for a project at the Sur slaughterhouse, investments in Al Barr Park and Al Suwaih Park, and a café in Al Ashkhara Park.
