NCC subsidiary Nybergs Entreprenad has been commissioned to construct a swim centre in Visby, Sweden.

The project will be executed in partnering form with the client, Region Gotland, with an estimated value of approximately Skr300m ($29.20m).

To be built next to Solbergabadet, the centre will be near Visby's Town Wall.

This location is claimed to pose logistical challenges and demands a sensitive approach to the nearby traffic and existing structures.

Meanwhile, Solbergabadet will remain, but will serve a new, yet-to-be-determined function.

Region Gotland project manager Ingemar Britts said: “Building in the centre of the city and right next to a world heritage site is special.

“We are very pleased that Nybergs Entreprenad has been awarded the contract because we have worked with them many times before and have great confidence in the company. The fact that NCC’s experts are involved in building the swim centre was a decisive factor in the procurement.”

The swim centre will comprise a 25m pool for laps, a multifunctional pool, a family-friendly pool, and a deep diving pool.

Additional amenities will include a relaxation area, a café, and locker rooms.

NCC Infrastructure head Kenneth Nilsson said: “The planning of this project has been ongoing for a long time and we are more than ready to start working on the construction of this modern swim centre for Visby and its surroundings.

“A local team will be working closely with NCC’s team of swim centre experts, who have the expertise required to build with the latest technology in a logistically challenging location.”

Construction is set to begin later this year, with completion expected by the third quarter (Q3) of 2027.

The project value will be included in the NCC Infrastructure business in Q3 2024.

This development follows NCC's agreement to manage the reconstruction of Liseberg's Oceana Water World, last month.
