Canadian company Northstar Clean Technologies, with its engineering contractor BBA Engineering, has begun a detailed engineering design process for its proposed asphalt shingle reprocessing facility in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Engineering work will be carried out to finalise the process, equipment, and specifications for the facility, dubbed the Empower Calgary Facility.
It will include important deliverables such as the facility's layout plan, tender packages for equipment procurement, and commissioning procedures.
The company has achieved the basic requirements needed to begin thorough engineering design works.
As part of the detailed engineering design process, the project has completed an initial detailed engineering design review with BBA, as well as a review by each of TAMKO Building Products and McAsphalt Industries and certain other experts to ensure the design meets the requirements of all stakeholders and incorporates best practices.
Furthermore, it plans to start purchasing long-lead equipment in the following weeks.
Upon completing the engineering design, the company will begin constructing modules for the Empower Calgary facility, which is fully financed and has just finished site development.
Northstar director, president and CEO Aidan Mills said: “As soon as we closed the TAMKO strategic equity investment on 31 July 2023, we commenced the prerequisite work to begin detailed engineering design for the Empower Calgary Facility.
“We have now completed all the design preparation work, including an update to our front-end engineering design (FEED), to integrate all the operational de-risking work carried out at the Empower Pilot Facility in Delta, British Columbia, along with customer and vendor feedback.”
