Nordec, a supplier of steel frame structures and facade solutions, has been contracted for the southern part of the Laakso Joint Hospital’s main building construction project in Finland.

The contract encompasses the manufacturing and installation of steel frames for Blocks A and B, alongside the fitting of concrete elements provided by Lujabetoni.

The Laakso Joint Hospital project is a major endeavour aimed at delivering medical facilities in Finland. It involves constructing two new hospital buildings and renovating two protected buildings within the Laakso Hospital area.

Additionally, a new forensic psychiatric hospital is to be built in the Ohkola area in Mäntsälä.

The main building, which is part of Nordec's current scope, will function as a significant teaching and research hospital, providing essential services such as psychiatric medical care and neurological rehabilitation.

Nordec's engagement with the project commenced during the development phase post a tender procedure in 2022, with the company initially working on the northern part of the main building, covering Blocks C and D.

The continuity of Nordec's involvement promises consistency in the construction process.

The project is on track for the original schedule, with Nordec's delivery expected to be completed by early 2026.

The delivery for the Laakso project includes over 8km of Nordec slim-floor beams, more than 4km of composite columns, and roughly 16,000 structures to be installed on-site.

The Laakso Joint Hospital construction project’s investment is estimated to be €1.01bn ($1.06bn). Last month, a finance contract for €100m was reached with the European Investment Bank for the project.
