Norwegian civil engineering company Norconsult has entered into a design agreement with chemicals company Jotun to develop a new binder production facility in Gimle, Sandefjord, Norway.

The scope of the project will see the overall modification and co-location of the production facility.

The first phase of design will be finished by mid-2024.

Norconsult is currently working on a preliminary design alongside additional detailed designs in this early phase of the multidisciplinary project.

The company holds the option to complete the assignment alongside thorough design and construction management if the project is still ongoing beyond its expected completion date.

Norconsult Technology and Industry director Henning Vellene said: “We are pleased to receive this assignment, and it demonstrates our position as a leading consulting company within [the] process industry.”

Jotun is a multinational industrial company founded in Sandefjord in 1926. It currently operates in more than 100 countries.

Norconsult has already worked on other Jotun projects, including the design of Jotun's headquarters and research centre, a 34,000m² structure made up of multiple smaller sections and directly adjacent to the binder factory.

Architect Henning Larsen partnered with Norconsult for the joint headquarters and research centre development.
