Indian utilities company NHPC has awarded contracts to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) and Patel Engineering for works related to the 2880MW Dibang multipurpose project.

The project is located on the Dibang River, in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh.

NHPC has selected Patel Engineering and its undisclosed joint venture (JV) partner for civil works for Lot-4, related to the Dibang project.

The contract has a time period of 86 months and is valued at Rs36.37bn ($440.1m).

Under the contract, the JV partners will be responsible for the construction of head race tunnels including intake, pressure shafts, penstocks, powerhouse and transformer caverns, tail race tunnels, and pothead yard, among others.

In a stock exchange filing, BHEL said it has secured the contract, worth approximately Rs22.41bn excluding taxes, for providing electromechanical works for the Dibang project.

Under the contract, BHEL will be responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of the electromechanical package.

The scope of the contract also includes the electrical and mechanical balance of plant.

BHEL plans to manufacture major equipment for the contract at its plants in Bhopal, Bangalore, Jhansi, and Rudrapur in the country.

On-site activities are planned to be carried out by the BHEL’s Power Sector - Eastern Region division, Kolkata.

The metaverse is still in its early stages - first movers have the chance to become market leaders in the construction industry

The construction industry has large and complex sites to manage, strict project deadlines, hazardous working conditions, and tight profit margins. It is also under increasing pressure to improve its ESG credentials and digitalize. The three primary use cases for the metaverse in the construction industry are training, building information modeling (BIM) renders, and collaborative creation, though its adoption is still in its infancy.
