Construction has commenced on a new hotel project in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK. 

This comes after S Harrison, a property development company, appointed Ogilvie Construction as the principal contractor for this project. 

S Harrison project manager Andrew Wharton said: “Appointing Ogilvie Construction to deliver another landmark project in Edinburgh and seeing work start is obviously a key milestone for this development and follows several years of diligent work to secure both planning permission and the right occupier for the scheme.  

“We’re now looking forward to seeing our plans progress on site over the coming months.” 

The project entails the transformation of Osborne House, a 1970s office building that S Harrison acquired in 2018, into a hotel facility.  

The property is located just west of Edinburgh's city centre and a short walk from the Haymarket railway station. 

The construction plan involves the partial demolition of the existing structure, the addition of two new accommodation wings, and an extra storey above the current building. 

The company worked in collaboration with Edinburgh-based Comprehensive Design Architects on the plans to incorporate green credentials. 

This includes the retention of most of the existing building structure.  

The deal with MEININGER Hotels, a European hotel group, to operate the hotel was announced late last year.  

Ogilvie Construction operations director Grier Edmead said: “We are proud to be working with S Harrison on this project which has energy-efficiency and strong sustainability credentials at the heart of its design.” 

Expected to open in 2026, the hotel will feature amenities such as a residents’ bar, restaurant, lounge area, and an outdoor seating terrace.  

Additionally, this month, Thomas Johnstone was appointed by S Harrison to construct a new purpose-built student accommodation project in the capital.
