UK-based infrastructure manager Network Rail has announced a series of upgrades to the Yorkshire Wolds railway line between Beverley and Hunmanby in the country.

Network Rail teams will operate in six sections along the line for the upgrades, which are scheduled to take place next month.

Works will involve the installation of new track, renewal of switches and crossings, and improvements to level crossings.

The upgrades are part of an extended programme aimed at enhancing the reliability and smoothness of journeys along the Yorkshire Wolds Line.

During the upgrade period, there will be alterations to train services, including the introduction of rail replacement services.

Network Rail North & East route director Matt Rice said: “We have deliberately planned to carry out this work in a longer period so that our engineers can work to deliver all the vital upgrades at once, rather than causing multiple periods of disruption.

“However, we know that this work will be disruptive to passengers and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

In a separate development, Network Rail announced that work has commenced on a project to enhance accessibility at the Beeston railway station.

This initiative will see the installation of two new lifts, providing step-free access between platforms one and two.

It also includes the replacement of the current platform one staircase, integrating it with the Meadow Road flyover.

These accessibility improvements at Beeston Station are expected to be completed by late 2024.

The project is part of the UK Department for Transport's 'Access for All' scheme, which aims to provide step-free access at numerous stations across the country.

Broxbourne Member of Parliament Darren Henry said: “One of the first campaigns I launched when being elected as the Member of Parliament for Broxtowe was to secure ‘Access for All’ funding for Beeston Station. I am delighted this project is finally going to begin.

“Beeston Station is a huge asset to the community and is kept immaculate all year around by the tireless work of the Friends of Beeston Station. These lifts will benefit a wide range of people and I cannot wait to see them opened in due course."
