Rail operator Network Rail has announced the completion of the Troon station rebuild in Scotland, UK.

The first platform and canopies at Troon were destroyed in a July 2021 fire, which caused damage to the South Ayrshire station.

This project represents a £5m ($6.49m) investment in Scotland's Railway.

The rebuild of the Troon station included the installation of a new ticket office, toilets, and waiting area, as well as a Changing Places facility.

Construction works, which began in October 2023, also saw the replacement of seven platform canopies.

The station's updated design was finalised after consultation with the local community, council, and other stakeholders.

Network Rail Scotland route director Ross Moran said: “The new station provides improved facilities for customers while also capturing the historic character of the original building.

“Our team have worked incredibly hard alongside our contractors to deliver this new facility for Troon and we would also like to thank the local community for their input to the design of the new building and their patience during the work to construct the new facility.”

Additionally, Network Rail and Story Contracting are set to replace a bridge over the River Cherwell in King's Sutton near Banbury as part of a more than £9m investment.

This will involve the installation of a new 240-tonne (t) bridge deck with the help of two special rail-mounted 'Kirow' cranes.

The upgrade is expected to maintain the safety and reliability of the railway for both passenger and freight services.

Engineers are also working on enhancing more than 500m of railway north of the Banbury station.

This includes replacing sections of track and improving drainage systems to provide a smoother journey experience for passengers.

Due to these works, the Chiltren main line will be temporarily closed between the Bicester and Leamington Spa stations.
