UK-based Network Rail has secured planning permission to build the new Leven station, a segment of the £116m Levenmouth Rail Link project funded by the Scottish Government.

The new station will feature 205m island platforms and a pebble-styled pavilion area acting as the entrance.

Situated adjacent to the Leven leisure centre, the station will offer convenient access to connecting bus services and existing active travel routes in the area.

The facility will include 133 parking spaces, some equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs), as well as ‘blue badge’ accessible parking spaces and added bike storage.

Leven and Cameron Bridge are the two new stations currently being constructed as part of the new rail link development.

A planning application was originally filed for the development in October 2022, with construction on the station's rail-facing components beginning in February this year.

So far, engineers have built the station's new island platforms using 98 precast units and approximately 200m³ of concrete.

Network Rail programme manager Joe Mulvenna said: “Securing planning permission for Leven station is another step in the right direction for the project. It takes us closer to getting the full station development built and opened for public use.

“While there are conditions attached to the planning consent, these come as no surprise to us, and we are busy working through these with Fife Council so we can proceed as planned with the work.”
