Construction company NCC has secured a contract from water and waste business Roslagsvatten to construct a new treatment plant in Österåker, Sweden.
The estimated value of this turnkey contract is Skr1.2bn.
In Margretelund, Åkersberga, NCC will construct this new wastewater treatment plant next to the existing facility.
Planning works have been underway for 'some time' and the project is now moving into its next phase.
The project intends to secure wastewater treatment for both Österåker Municipality and Vaxholm.
NCC is currently constructing an advanced automated treatment facility using water treatment technologies to ensure water availability for 57,000 people.
Roslagsvatten CEO Christian Wiklund said: “Roslagsvatten has been researching various alternatives to secure future wastewater treatment for Österåker Municipality and the city of Vaxholm since 2018.
"The new treatment plant, which will process wastewater for a long time to come, meets all of the requirements we have in terms of environmental impact, finances, and technology.”
The plant will generate its electricity using solar panels and energy storage and is designed to withstand severe weather conditions.
NCC Infrastructure head Kenneth Nilsson said: “This is a project where NCC can leverage its unique expertise within water and environmental technology. We are now looking forward to helping Österåker and Vaxholm develop a treatment plant that meets their future requirements and needs.”
The plant is set to be completed and operational in 2028, with an affiliated staff building to be added a year later.
NCC will record this order in its Infrastructure business segment in the fourth quarter of this year.
