Construction company NCC, in partnership with Ängelholmslokaler, a municipality-owned company, has begun the construction phase of a new elementary school in Ängelholm, Sweden.

The project contract is valued at approximately Skr250m ($25.9m).

NCC’s project involves building an elementary school that will serve 550 students and includes a kitchen, sports hall, and outdoor area.

The new school is scheduled to open in time for the autumn term of 2027.

The contract between NCC and Ängelholmslokaler is a turnkey agreement in partnering form, where both parties have worked together from the planning and design stages to agree on a target cost.

This collaborative approach has now transitioned the project into the construction phase, with a ceremonial pouring held to mark its initiation.

Ängelholmslokaler CEO Pernilla Nevsten said: “We are very happy to be starting construction of the new elementary school at Adolfsfält. This school will offer a modern and sustainable learning environment for students, and we are looking forward to seeing the project evolve.

"Through our partnership with NCC, we are ensuring that the construction of the school will maintain the highest quality with a focus on reduced environmental impact. This is an important step for the future and for Ängelholm.”

The new school's construction will adhere to the Miljöbyggnad Silver environmental certification standards, with certain aspects, such as energy use and environmental impact, aiming for Miljöbyggnad Gold.

NCC claims it will focus on lowering the school's carbon footprint by using climate-improved concrete and steel and constructing the roof with a timber structure.

The order for this new project will be registered under the NCC Building Sweden business area in the second quarter of 2025.

NCC has also recently finished constructing Villanskolan in Ängelholm.

NCC Building Sweden head Niklas Sparw said: “We are delighted to be building another school in Ängelholm municipality.

"By partnering with Ängelholmlokaler from an early phase, we have been able to contribute with the lessons learned from other school projects, and valuable experience from building with a lower carbon footprint.”

Earlier this month, NCC also secured 14 more asphalt contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and various regions in Norway.
