Nordic construction company NCC has secured 14 more asphalt contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (SVV) and various regions in Norway.

These one-year contracts are valued at approximately Skr750m ($78.6m).

NCC Industry head Grete Aspelund said: “We have secured half of all the state asphalt contracts in Norway ahead of the coming season, 19 overall, for a total value of about Skr1bn. This shows clearly that we are a key player in the Nordic market and that we have a competitive offering.”

The contracts encompass a wide range of regions across Norway, including SVV Øvre Buskerud, SVV Nedre Buskerud, SVV Møre og Romsdal Riksveger, SVV Trøndelag Nord-Riksveger, and SVV Trøndelag Sør-Riksveger.

NCC stated that it has focused on reducing CO₂ emissions by making its production processes more sustainable.

Its initiatives to reduce emissions have involved approaches such as using wood pellets for energy in asphalt plants, biogenic binding agents, and the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP).

As mandated by Norwegian law, all contracts signed this year incorporate environmental weighting criteria of 30%. They also require the provision of environmental product declarations (EPDs).

Work under these contracts is scheduled to commence shortly, with completion expected by late 2025.

The value of these contracts will be recorded in the NCC Industry business area during the second quarter of 2025.

Earlier this month, NCC was selected by property owner Hemsö to redevelop Mälardalen University’s ‘S’ building in Västerås, Sweden, converting the existing teaching facility into modern office spaces.

NCC has also won a contract from Swedish mining company LKAB to construct a new recycling centre in Kiruna.
