The Navotas Polytechnic College building project in Navotas City, the Philippines, has entered the final phase of civil works, the country's Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
The sixth and final phase, being managed by the DPWH Malabon-Navotas District Engineering Office, is expected to be completed by the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.
Upon completion, the new school building will feature additional classrooms, an audiovisual room, a new Registrar’s Office, an Administration Office (DEO), and specialised computer and speech laboratories.
The facility will also have accessible toilets, storage, a medical and dental clinic, an elevator system connecting all floors for ease of access, and more.
Additionally, it will include a gym, a court for volleyball and badminton, locker and shower rooms, and open space for events.
DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan said: “This new facility is designed to provide a conducive learning environment and to benefit the present and future generation of students in Navotas City.”
The project, which started in 2021, has been allocated 589.64m pesos ($10.47m) from the General Appropriations Act from 2021 to 2024.
In a separate announcement, the DPWH said it completed a segment of an access road in Naga City, which is part of a future promenade inspired by the Iloilo River Esplanade.
The Camarines Sur 3rd DEO finished a portion of this project in March 2024, including a two-lane concrete road parallel to Bicol River with a bike lane, walkway, green area, and solar-powered LED streetlights.
Another segment of the Naga City project is expected to be completed before the end of the year, with a current completion rate of 64% and funding of 19.39m pesos.
DPWH Regional Office 5 director Virgilio Eduarte said: “This completed road will be part of our bigger project dubbed Bicol River Esplanade which is envisioned to serve as a new tourist attraction and will generate revenue for the city, through employment and business opportunities.”
Additionally, the DPWH made progress on a domestic flood control project in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, earlier this month.
