Manchester City Council has finalised a partnership with Muse, a national development company, for the £500m ($642.93m) regeneration project of Wythenshawe Civic, England, UK.

The initiative aims to revamp the region's dated shopping centre and its vicinity.

Specifically, Muse has been appointed as the delivery and investment partner to help rejuvenate Wythenshawe's town centre.

In collaboration with the council, Muse will undertake the project that promises to create a new public square, introduce fresh retail spaces, and establish net-zero commercial, community, and cultural facilities.

The regeneration programme also includes the construction of more than 1,750 new homes on council-owned property, including a substantial portion of affordable housing, within the next decade.

The search for a private sector collaborator capable of large-scale investment and development in line with the town centre's strategic vision commenced in October 2023.

The partnership aspires to deliver the UK's inaugural Positive Energy District in Wythenshawe by constructing highly energy-efficient buildings complemented by indigenous trees, community gardens, and rooftop green spaces.

This initiative is part of a strategic plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and enhance local biodiversity at the site.

Initial development activities are projected to start by 2025.

Manchester City Council leader and councillor Bev Craig said: “This is a key moment for our ambitious plan for long-term regeneration of Wythenshawe Civic.

“Bringing Muse in as development and investment partner means we can quickly progress to begin delivering on proposals that will genuinely transform the town centre in the coming years.”
