Muse has reached an agreement with Solihull Council to spearhead the redevelopment of Mell Square, a central shopping area in Solihull, West Midlands, England.

This development agreement follows the project's approval by Solihull Council's cabinet last month, marking a key step in the regeneration scheme.

The plans for Mell Square include a diverse mix of enhanced retail spaces, new public areas, leisure amenities, and residential units.

This initiative is a critical component of the wider Solihull Town Centre Masterplan, which outlines a strategic vision for future investments and development within the borough.

In October 2023, Muse was selected as the preferred development partner for the Mell Square project.

The company has since conducted a public consultation as part of the preplanning process, inviting residents to contribute their perspectives on the future of the shopping district.

The insights gained from this engagement will shape the forthcoming planning application, expected to be submitted in the new year.

Muse, a division of Morgan Sindall Group, engages in creating sustainable, mixed-use environments that revitalise urban areas. With regional teams operating in Birmingham, Leeds, London, and Manchester, Muse collaborates closely with partners and communities to deliver projects.

Solihull Council leader and councillor Ian Courts said: “This development agreement means that we are entering a crucial phase of the regeneration. With Muse’s expertise as a nationwide developer, I am confident that we can reinvigorate Mell Square to enhance Solihull town centre’s existing retail offer, visitor attractions and diversify the nighttime economy.”

“Our vision could deliver a bold mixed-use neighbourhood with new evening and nighttime uses, alongside new homes and public spaces.”

Muse, alongside UK housing and infrastructure investor Pension Insurance Corporation and Homes England, recently formed a £54m ($70.17m) joint venture named Habiko.

This partnership aims to construct 3,000 low-carbon, energy-efficient affordable rental homes across the country.
