Morrison Construction’s Building Highland unit has secured a £5m contract to renovate Inverness' historic Northern Meeting Park in Scotland.

The Highland Council is the client for this project.

The scope of this project will cover the construction of a new pavilion building along with the renovation of the old 19th-century grandstand, which was established in 1864 as the world's first purpose-made Highland Games stadium.

Morrison Construction Highland managing director Donald McLachlan said: “This will be a fantastic project and opportunity for us to create a standout facility for the people of the Highlands, while protecting and refurbishing the existing historical buildings.”

Furthermore, the former concession hut and bathroom facilities will be demolished, making room for the construction of new public restrooms on the site, and a ground-source heat pump installation will supply the facility with sustainable energy.

Construction work is anticipated to extend through 2024.

Highland Council Inverness City and area leader and Levelling Up Fund Programme Board cochair and councillor Ian Brown said: “We are delighted to be working with Morrison Construction to progress with the refurbishments at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness, and in doing so, delivering on our commitments to work with local companies where possible.

“We need to reduce our carbon emissions to contribute to Scotland’s climate targets. It’s a huge task but once completed this project will leave a positive environmental legacy for our Highland communities.”
