Morrison Construction’s Building Central unit has secured a contract to construct the new Whitecraig Primary School in East Lothian, Scotland.

The project is in response to the area's population growth, spurred by local housing developments.

The £18.5m ($23.34m) contract will see the replacement of the existing school, which was established in 1959.

A new school building, including eight classrooms and an integrated early learning centre, will be built.

The design of the new Whitecraig Primary School prioritises safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

A dedicated community entrance will be established to the north-east of the school.

Additionally, Whitecraig Road will undergo upgrades to accommodate the traffic changes expected with the school's introduction.

Morrison Construction Building Central managing director David Ewing said: “We have developed a strong relationship with East Lothian Council working on a number of successful projects over recent years and look forward to working with them once again to create another first-class facility for the local community in Whitecraig and the surrounding area.”

Morrison Construction is a Scottish contractor of Galliford Try.

In July 2021, Hub South East Scotland, on behalf of East Lothian Council, selected Morrison Construction to build the Wallyford Learning Campus.

Meanwhile, Galliford Try has commenced construction work on a new extension to Preston Park Museum, under the £10m contract.

Preston Park Museum, housed within a 19th-century manor, is situated in Stockton-on-Tees and features exhibits from Victorian times.

The project was awarded as part of the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, a regeneration programme.

This contract was awarded through the Procure Partnerships Framework.

The extension will include a 1,600m² two-storey exhibition space, as well as refurbishment of the existing café and aviary.
