Morgan Sindall Construction has initiated the Junction Mills demolition on Thornton Road in Bradford, paving the way for the new Future Technologies Centre at Bradford College in the UK.

The construction company has been newly appointed for the project.

The first phase of the project involves site surveys followed by the demolition of the currently unoccupied Junction Mills structure.

The latest move marks the beginning of the construction of the purpose-built facility, which will house automotive and digital engineering training.

The project will include a four-storey building dedicated to modern training in electric/hybrid vehicles and advanced manufacturing.

The centre is set to play a crucial role in fostering the development of technology and low-carbon skills in West Yorkshire.

It received a £15m ($19.19m) investment from the UK Department for Education's (Dfe) Further Education Capital Transformation Fund in October 2022.

It also secured an additional £2m contribution from the college itself.

Upon the site's completion in the 2025-2026 academic year, the Automotive and Digital Engineering Department of Bradford College will move from its current location at Bowling Back Lane to the new facility.

The centre is expected to accommodate up to 650 students.

Morgan Sindall Construction Yorkshire Business area director Ben Hall said: “Our purpose as a business is to create inspiring places that enhance local communities, and we are proud to support Bradford College in the delivery of this sector-leading facility which will provide a cutting-edge learning environment for the local community, allowing the college to deliver on its mission of transforming lives.

“It is a great pleasure to be working with the college and we look forward to continuing our close working relationship as well as supporting students, staff, the local community, and wider stakeholders throughout the delivery of the project.”

Earlier in the year, Morgan Sindall Construction secured a contract for the £65m Multiversity campus in Blackpool, England, UK.
