The Midlands division of Morgan Sindall has announced the practical completion of E-ACT North Birmingham Academy, a school in Birmingham, UK.

Celebrations were held earlier this month to mark the completion of the school's extension and refurbishment.

Morgan Sindall initiated the academy's construction in July last year.

The project was undertaken on behalf of Acivico, which is a subsidiary of Birmingham City Council.

It aimed to increase the school's capacity to accommodate more students.

The construction project was procured through the Constructing West Midlands Framework and saw an £11m ($14.6m) investment into the academy.

This framework seeks to enhance public and third-sector facilities in the West Midlands area of England.

E-ACT North Birmingham Academy’s campus now spans 2,500m², due to Morgan Sindall's efforts in upgrading the existing facilities and adding a new sports field.

Furthermore, a two-storey extension has been built, linking to the original structure, and providing additional teaching space for up to 300 extra students.

During the extension's construction, Morgan Sindall engaged with the school and local community to ensure the project delivered social value.

Initiatives primarily included creating a Construction Training wall for practical student lessons and partnering with the academy in fundraising for testicular cancer research, with the site team running more than 500km in a single month.

The project focused on sustainability, achieving a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology Excellent rating for its environmental and net-zero efforts and utilising a local supply chain.

In addition to the construction work, Morgan Sindall provided the academy with technology teaching walls for mock electrical workshops, supporting the school's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education programmes.

Morgan Sindall Construction Midlands area director Richard Fielding said: “We’re so proud to celebrate this important milestone here at E-ACT North Birmingham Academy. By enhancing the learning environment at the school and bringing a brand new sports field to life, our work will help to inspire the next generation.

“In partnership with Acivico, the project team has created an environment that not only enhances the academy's facilities but also guarantees a sustainable, long-term future for the institution.”
