Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) has signed a contract with Morgan Sindall Construction to commence the construction of a new Day Case Surgery and Imaging Centre in Harrogate District Hospital in the UK.

This new facility will include two operating theatres, two treatment rooms, a day case ward, and an advanced imaging department.

Construction of the project is set to begin next month, with its completion expected in 2026.

The new imaging department will be equipped with enhanced facilities and services, including two MRI scanners, two CT scanners, three X-ray rooms, seven UV scanners, bone density scanners, and fluoroscopy services.

These features will provide real-time imaging of tissue and organs, significantly improving diagnostic capabilities.

The site for the new building was previously occupied by the Therapy Services building, which has been demolished as part of the trust's efforts to remove reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete.

The construction is a continuation of the trust's transformation programme, which has already seen several improvements at Harrogate District Hospital.

Some improvements include the redevelopment of the hospital's Emergency Department, the establishment of Emergency Department 2, and the opening of a Community Diagnostic Centre at Ripon Community Hospital.

These developments aim to provide faster access to tests and scans for the community.

The latest project is part of a £50m ($62m) capital investment funded by HDFT and NHS England.

Despite the ongoing construction, the trust aims to ensure that existing services will be maintained and any disruption to patients, visitors, staff, and the local community will be minimal.

In addition to the Harrogate project, Morgan Sindall Construction has secured another contract to develop the University of Salford’s new Acoustics Building within Crescent Salford’s innovation zone.
