Mace, in a joint venture (JV) with SYSTRA, has been selected by India's Rail Land Development Authority to redevelop the Ahmedabad Railway Station in the state of Gujarat in the country.

The Ahmedabad Railway Station currently accommodates 160 trains daily and facilitates the travel of 120,000 passengers.

The number of daily passengers is expected to rise to 300,000 by 2060.

The three-year redevelopment programme aims to convert the station into a multimodal transport hub.

It will integrate Indian Railways, Metro Rail, and High-Speed Rail, alongside new commercial, residential, and retail spaces.

The project will span nearly 40ha and is set for completion across two phases.

It will also include the construction of infrastructure and the incorporation of local heritage sites such as the Brick Minar and Jhulta Minar minarets, into the design.

Mace India country manager Hemant Sandu said: “We will implement our global expertise in delivering large transportation redevelopments and give back to the people of Ahmedabad city by transforming their station into a modern, fit-for-purpose transportation hub.”

Under the Project Management Consultancy Services contract, the Mace-SYSTRA JV will be tasked with various responsibilities.

These tasks include design review, architectural controls, and ensuring adherence to quality, safety, health, and environmental standards.

The JV will also manage interface coordination, monitor project progress, verify invoices, and oversee the installation, testing, commissioning, and handover processes.

Mace has been operating in India since 2011, with its portfolio encompassing projects such as Mumbai International Airport - Terminal 2, among others.

In March this year, Mace was selected as the primary contractor for upgrading more than 100 properties in the UK under the Future Ready Property Enhancement Initiative.
