Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has granted design-and-build civil contracts for the two interchange stations included under the Cross Island Line (CRL) Phase 2 project.

CRL Phase 2 is nearly 15km long and comprises six underground stations.

The latest contracts are for building the King Albert Park and Clementi interchange stations.

The Singapore segment of China Communications Construction Company secured the design-and-build contract for the King Albert Park station, valued at approximately S$447m ($325.41m).

Meanwhile, a joint venture between the Singapore units of China Communications Construction Company and Sinohydro received the contract for the Clementi station, worth roughly S$514m.

The CRL King Albert Park station is situated on Blackmore Drive off Bukit Timah Road while the CRL Clementi station is located close to the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue West and Clementi Avenue 4.

Construction works will be executed in phases in order to help avoid traffic congestion.

The project will also see additional renovation works at the King Albert Park station on its Downtown Line and on Clementi station on its East-West Line to provide easy transfers and improved connectivity to the new CRL interchange stations.

Due to challenging ground conditions at both locations, earth-retaining and stabilising structures will be built prior to excavation and construction works to help with the ground stability of nearby stakeholders.

Construction works for both stations are anticipated to commence in the first quarter of next year, with the passenger service for CRL Phase 2 expected to begin in 2032.

CRL is the eighth mass rapid transit line in Singapore. It will connect significant centres such as the Jurong Lake District, Changi, and Punggol Digital District to existing and upcoming projects in the eastern, north-eastern, and western corridors of the country.
