Indian conglomerate Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Heavy Civil Infrastructure business has announced that it has secured several orders.
Central public sector enterprise Rail Vikas Nigam has placed an order for the design and construction of an underground metropolitan project related to the Joka-Esplanade Metro corridor in Kolkata, India.
The scope of this project involves the design and construction of the ramp and associated underground railway works from Mominpur to Esplanade, measuring 5.05km.
It also includes the construction of tunnels for four underground stations in the region, which are Victoria, Park Street, Khidderpore, and Esplanade.
The company will make use of tunnel boring machines and cut and cover methods, as well as carry out labour related to architectural finishing and track works.
The company's other order was from a client in the Middle East for the rehabilitation of key infrastructure.
This is said to be L&T’s first package of its kind in the Middle Eastern market. The scope of the project comprises the construction and installation of special systems, as well as feasibility analysis and a detailed concept design of the related systems.
L&T did not disclose the value of either of these contracts but noted that they were 'large' in scope.
Significant orders are estimated to be valued between Rs10bn ($121m) and Rs25bn while large orders are estimated to be worth between Rs25bn and Rs50bn by L&T.
