L&T wins bridge construction project in Mumbai

The development involves the construction of a 4.5km bridge that will connect Dahisar and Bhayander.

October 04 2023

The Transportation Infrastructure business segment of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction has secured the Dahisar Bhayander bridge construction project in Mumbai within the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) awarded this construction project to L&T.

The project involves the development of a 4.5km bridge that connects Dahisar and Bhayander in the city.

The 4.5km link will feature two different carriageways, a multilevel interchange, and seamless entry and departure points at both Dahisar and Bhayander.

In addition, the development will include two large navigational spans alongside the creek.

Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly minimise the travel time taken between Dahisar and Bhayander. At present, the route takes more than 45 minutes to travel.

L&T is already in the process of completing two other packages of the Mumbai Coastal Road projects for MCGM.

L&T did not disclose the specific value of the contract, but according to its classification, a 'Large' contract falls between Rs25bn ($300m) and Rs50bn.

In July this year, L&T secured an order worth more than Rs70bn for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project in India.

Investment in the infrastructure and energy & utilities sectors remains a major driver of overall construction growth

Infrastructure and Energy & Utilities sectors expanded in 2020 despite COVID-19 disruptions, which reflected the efforts by governments and public institutions to accelerate investment to stimulate activity. The recovery from the pandemic and the easing of restrictions allowed the resumption of work on major projects in 2021, and growth is set to remain strong in the coming years, particularly given major investment programs in the US and China.
