Winvic Construction has announced that the 24-storey Lisbon Street purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project reached its topping-out milestone in Leeds, UK. 

An event was held on the site's 24th floor with Winvic’s client CASL Lisbon Street and project fund CA Ventures to mark the milestone. 

This 548-bedroom student accommodation tower is located at the intersection of Lisbon Street and Castle Street in Leeds' city centre. 

Once completed, the project will provide single-occupancy, en-suite student bedrooms in a single tower block.  

The development is set to feature a 1,593ft² first-floor roof terrace, cinema rooms, a fitness centre, a games room, and a TV lounge, aiming to enhance the living experience for student residents. 

Additionally, an aluminium rainscreen cladding, with the broader Lisbon Street development, has been installed on the lower levels.  

The Winvic team has finished the final decorations on these floors and is currently working on installing partitions on the 17th floor. 

Winvic has also been trialling an approach of replacing gas-fired boilers with electric boilers for roofing activities.  

This forms part of Winvic's commitment to sustainability and reducing the carbon associated with hot works. 

The Lisbon Street PBSA project, which is situated on the former International Swimming Pool site, is part of a larger four-plot development that also includes build-to-rent apartments and commercial spaces.  

Winvic Multi-room managing director Mark Jones said: “The Lisbon Street project in the centre of Leeds has been progressing very well and it was great to celebrate the topping-out milestone with our client and the scheme’s funders, CASL Lisbon Street and CA Ventures.  

“With other projects also being constructed adjacent to ours, on the wider Lisbon Street site, there were challenges to consider, but the team’s collaborative skills have ensured that we’re right on programme for completion in summer [the middle of] next year.” 

Winvic said it has been fostering cross-contractor collaboration to ensure the success of the entire development.  

The company took over the PBSA project last October, with a completion date set for August 2025. 

Earlier this month, Winvic Construction tested the Skyline Cockpit, an Israeli-developed remote-controlled crane operating system, on a separate student accommodation contract in Birmingham, UK.
