The second phase of infrastructure works has commenced on the Laakso joint hospital project, a psychiatric and somatic hospital in Helsinki, Finland.

Construction company SRV, real estate company Kiinteistöosakeyhtiö Laakson yhteissairaala, the Laakson LATU consortium, Unitas consortium, and Granlund have jointly signed a €109m ($118.47m) contract for this phase.

The Laakson LATU consortium includes Arkkitehtitoimisto Tähti-Set, AW2-Architects, Lukkaroinen Architects, and UKI Arkkitehdit.

SRV is the main contractor of the project and has secured a €101m share of the contract, which will be recognised in the company's order book for February 2024.

The Laakso joint hospital project is progressing through phases from 2022 to 2030.

The project will not require any capital investment from SRV.

The infrastructure works comprise concrete structures and equipment for the underground facilities constructed in the project's first phase, in addition to building engineering tasks.

It is noted that approximately 99% of construction site waste is being sorted to facilitate on-site reuse and recycling, surpassing the EU Taxonomy threshold of 70%.

SRV Helsinki Metropolitan Area unit director and Laakso Joint Hospital Alliance project manager Ossi Inkilä said: “The first implementation phase of the infrastructure works has progressed as planned on the site, while the second phase has been carefully prepared and developed.

“With careful groundwork, we wanted to ensure the success of the demanding infrastructure work phase during the implementation phase.”

Other projects of SRV include the National Museum Annex in Helsinki and the Sammontalo multipurpose building in Lappeenranta.
