KTC Civil Engineering & Construction has secured a design and construction contract for the Maju station and tunnels under the Cross Island Line Phase 2 (CRL2) scheme in Singapore.  

Awarded by the country's Land Transport Authority (LTA), the contract is worth S$480m ($358.03m). 

The CRL Maju station is an underground station situated along Clementi Road, near residential areas and educational institutions. 

Construction of the CRL Maju station is set to begin in the second quarter (Q2) of this year, with passenger services for CRL2 expected to start in 2032.  

The CRL, which is noted to be Singapore's eighth mass rapid transit line, is expected to enhance connectivity across the eastern, northeastern, and western corridors of the city. 

It aims to link key hubs and provide interchanges with other rail lines for improved commuter convenience. 

The CRL will be constructed in three phases, with phase one already underway and expected to be completed by 2030.  

Phase one is 29km long and includes 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill. 

Phase two is 15km long and consists of six underground stations, including Turf City, Maju, Clementi, King Albert Park, and others.

Details for phase three are pending the completion of engineering studies. 

Before awarding the contract, the LTA conducted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the upcoming activities in the vicinity of Clementi Forest.  

The EIA included consultations with nature groups to discuss biodiversity concerns and the measures to manage the environmental impact of construction. 

To facilitate the construction works, traffic and utilities will be diverted in phases.  

The LTA and KTC plan to closely monitor the works to ensure safety and minimal disruption to the community and existing structures. 

KTC is currently finalising the construction of the TEL Sungei Bedok station.
