Kier is set to work with Leeds City Council for the redevelopment of the historic Leeds Town Hall, a project described as a 'once-in-a-generation' undertaking, in the UK, after the company’s selection as the construction partner.

This Grade 1 listed building opened in 1858 and was inaugurated by Queen Victoria.

The images, devised by architect Page\Park, include the addition of a new box office, an accessible entrance, and an impressive lift.

The ground floor will feature a new bar and updated toilet facilities.

Structural work will focus on the conservation and repair of key features such as stone masonry, intricate plasterwork, and doors.

The redevelopment scheme aims to protect the building's elements as well as to enable it to accommodate a broader and more accessible range of events and performances.

Kier Construction North and Scotland regional director Dan Doherty said: “We are proud to be working with Leeds City Council to refurbish the iconic Leeds Town Hall.

“Our highly skilled project teams have vast experience of regenerating listed buildings and we look forward to contributing to the preservation of this city centre landmark for generations to come.”

Additionally, the Leeds Town Hall organ, a separate aspect of the project, will undergo refurbishment to enhance its sound during performances and concerts.

The Victorian designs of the organ will also be restored.

The refurbishment of Leeds Town Hall is scheduled for completion in 2026.

This announcement follows Kier's commencement of construction on a new healthcare facility, the Emily Siddon Building, part of the University of Huddersfield’s National Health Innovation Campus in England, UK.

The new building will cover 6,800m² and is located near the centre of Huddersfield.
