KBS Builders has secured a contract to deliver modular units for the seasonal workforce housing market in Nantucket, Massachusetts, US. 

The $2m contract will see the company manufacture 14 modular units, amounting to more than 10,000ft², which will be assembled into a 20-apartment multifamily building. 

The project will be completed in collaboration with J&J Contractors and aims to deliver affordable, high-quality, and energy-efficient housing.  

KBS' volumetric modular construction process is designed to provide a timely and cost-effective solution, with a reduced environmental footprint.  

The units will be produced off-site during the off-season and installed before the tourism peak season begins.  

This is expected to serve as a solution for workforce and affordable housing projects, particularly in tourism-centric markets such as Nantucket. 

KBS president Thatcher Butcher said: “Our excellent track record in delivering high-quality large-scale projects makes KBS the ideal partner for many New England area contractors.

"Over the last three years, we have completed several commercial projects for military veterans, local workforces, and homeless shelters, in addition to dormitories for colleges and classrooms for schools."  

This project comes after the company signed a contract to deliver 24 modules for the classrooms of two elementary schools in the South Burlington School District in Vermont, US, last year.
