JRL has secured the principal shell and core contractor role for a £400m ($497m) mixed-use development at 220 Blackfriars Road, Southwark, London.

The company has been appointed by Slovakia-based property developer JTRE for a package of works valued at approximately £30m.

The England-based project, developed in collaboration with Southwark Charities, will include 21- and 15-storey towers and feature gardens and landscaped areas.

JRL's scope of work under the contract includes piling, basement construction, and delivery of the superstructure.

The project began last June and follows the acquisition of a long leasehold interest in January of the same year.

The scheme’s 21-storey office block will provide more than 200,000ft² of space and feature a dining establishment at street level, enhancing the local area's amenities.

The office spaces are designed to achieve net-zero carbon in operation and meet WELL Gold building standards. They also aim to achieve a National Australian Built Environment Rating System rating of 5 to 5.5, along with Platinum Smart Score and Wired Score certifications.

Meanwhile, the 15-storey tower will provide a new almshouse with 64 'affordable' homes for Southwark Charities, along with a community centre, gardens, and a new retail space at ground level.

JRL chair John Reddington said: “The scheme fits perfectly with our core capabilities of large-diameter piling, bulk excavation, basement box construction, slip forming of cores, with design, supply and installation of post-tension slabs, along with crane and hoist hire - all being undertaken as the principal contractor.
