The Government of Western Australia (WA) has announced that construction on a new ten-lane lap pool at Arena Joondalup, previously known as HBF Arena, is set to commence next month, with the goal of providing the latest swimming facility for Perth's northern suburbs.

Funded by WA's Cook Government, the project is expected to be completed in early 2026 and aims to deliver significant community benefits, including accessibility and safety enhancements, enhanced competition features, and experience for swimmers and spectators.

The new lap pool is designed to complement the arena's family leisure pool, which was refurbished recently. The two pools will feature advanced drowning prevention technology to enhance swimmer safety.

The new pool's lanes will each be 2.25m wide, with a deeper shallow end for accommodating starting blocks.

The project also entails refurbishing the timing rooms and the Arena Swim Club office, as well as a 220m² extension for storage, maintenance, and improved driveway access.

A large LED video display will be installed on the site's western wall to showcase information and race results.

Additional upgrades include modernised changing rooms with universal access toilets and an updated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, ensuring comfort for all users of the facility.

Government of WA Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman said: "The new pool is an upgrade in every way, offering more space, new competition facilities, safety technology, a video scoreboard, new artwork, and significantly improved accessibility both in and out of the water.

"Swimming is a cherished part of Australian culture, and this new facility will ensure people of all ages can enjoy its many benefits."
