Jacobs has been appointed to provide programme management and consultancy services for King County Wastewater Treatment Division's more than $800m infrastructure upgrade project.

This project is expected to enhance water quality and resilience for approximately two million residents in the Seattle area and across the central Puget Sound region in the US.

Jacobs will oversee the South Treatment Plant Facility Program from initiation through the design, construction, and commissioning stages.

The facility is said to be one of King County's three regional wastewater plants.

It currently processes an average of 115 million gallons of wastewater per day during wet weather and 96 million gallons during dry periods.

The facility is also known for its educational initiatives and the CitySoil demonstration farm, which contributes around 4,000lb of food annually to a local food bank.

Jacobs senior vice-president Katus Watson said: “The South Treatment Plant Facility Program represents both a cross-generational investment in local Washington state communities and a commitment to preserve water quality throughout the region.

“With our industry-leading programme management team, coupled with our planning, design and construction management resources, we'll provide King County with an ideal mix of delivery experience to bring this important infrastructure programme to fruition.”

Jacobs' role will build upon its existing relationship with King County, where it has previously partnered to address water-quality challenges.

This collaboration extends across an infrastructure portfolio that serves 18 cities, 15 local sewer utilities, and the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe.

Last month, Jacobs was chosen by Singapore’s national water agency PUB to provide professional engineering services for the development of the Kranji Water Reclamation Plant.

Jacobs’ responsibilities include engineering design, construction supervision, and commissioning of this plant.
