Irwell Valley Homes, a non-profit housing association, has broken ground for a new supported housing scheme for adults with additional needs in Willow Street, Bury, UK.

Developed in partnership with Bury Council, the plans for 13 new homes aim to support adults with learning disabilities and autism.

The £3.3m ($4.12m) development, in collaboration with Persona Care and Support, a social care provider, will enable residents to live independently while having access to 24-hour support.

Bury Council leader and councillor Eamonn O’Brien said: “It’s essential that there is a range of housing options in Bury so that residents have a real choice over where they live and the type of home that is most suitable for their needs.

“This development in Willow Street provides much-needed accommodation for people who need additional support, and I am sure it will be extremely popular and welcome.”

Persona Care and Support managing director Kat Sowden added We are delighted to be part of this exciting development which will provide high-quality homes for people in Bury.

“When we get the type and quality of accommodation right it is the foundation for people to thrive. We know what can be achieved when housing and care partners work hand in hand and we are looking forward to building on our strong relationship with colleagues at Irwell Valley Homes to provide great housing and support for the tenants of Willow Street."

Representatives from Bury Council, GMCA, Persona Care and Support, family-owned PLP Construction, and Irwell Valley Homes attended the ground-breaking ceremony, following the demolition of a former food processing unit on the site late last year.

This scheme will enhance the services offered at the nearby Queensberry Place, which has supported individuals with additional needs to live independently for 22 years.
