Webuild Group's US subsidiary Lane has been awarded a significant contract worth $152m to carry out enhancements on South Carolina's Interstate 77 (I-77).
This development is set to facilitate traffic flow and support the new manufacturing facility of Scout Motors in Blythewood.
Lane's contract win elevates its 2024 portfolio to more than €1bn ($1.04bn) in new and pending agreements.
As of 30 June 2024, North America has contributed 13% to the group's total revenue.
The project, commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, is poised to offer substantial economic benefits to the region.
The planned upgrade includes the construction of a highway system with an interchange directly accessing the Scout Motors facility, expected to create up to 4,000 jobs.
This initiative is anticipated to boost the local economy, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance mobility for Blythewood's residents.
The project's main components involve building four bridges, access ramps, and a new road connecting I-77 to US Route 21.
Additionally, US Route 21 will be rerouted to facilitate a railway crossing for Norfolk Southern, which will serve the automotive facility.
The upgrade further encompasses the expansion of 4.8km of I-77 to three lanes and the improvement of existing interchanges.
These enhancements are part of a larger series of infrastructure projects that Webuild and Lane are undertaking across the US.
Among these projects is the construction of the twin Palisades tunnels in New York, aimed at improving railway connections, and the upgrade of a section of I-64 in Virginia.
Lane's recent contract wins also include a $190m deal for a highway interchange in Polk County, Florida, between I-4 and State Road 33.
