IJM Construction has secured two contracts, worth a total of RM962.3m ($294.23m), to build a logistics hub and a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Malaysia.

The first contract, valued at RM584.3m, has been awarded by Strategic Sonata for the development of the logistics hub at Section 15, Shah Alam, Selangor.

Work under the first contract encompasses the construction of a six-storey ramp-up warehouse and office space, a two-storey cafeteria, and other ancillary structures.

This project, which has already commenced, is expected to be completed within 28 months from its commencement date.

It seeks to attain the GreenRE Gold certification.

The GreenRE framework will assess the project's design, construction, and operational phases to ensure adherence to high environmental standards.

IJM group CEO and managing director Lee Chun Fai said: “The logistics sector presents significant growth opportunities, and this project reaffirms our commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable infrastructure.

“Leveraging advanced construction methods and value engineering, we aim to meet our clients' evolving needs while maintaining our focus on sustainability and efficiency.”

The second contract, worth RM378m, is for the first phase of a semiconductor manufacturing facility for Siliconware Precision Malaysia, at Bandar Cassia Technology Park, Penang.

This phase includes the construction of a four-storey production building, a centralised utility building, a warehouse, a substation, and a link bridge.

Completion is expected by October 2025.

To enhance the efficiency and quality of construction, IJM Construction will implement the SMART Industrialised Building System (IBS) solution from IJM IBS.

This method uses prefabricated components produced off site through an IR4.0 automated precast system, which are then assembled on site.

The approach is said to reduce construction time, as well as minimise environmental footprint.
