Construction company I&G has been selected to construct the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Leeds, England, UK. 

The centre, named after the British rugby league player, is said to be the first of its kind in the country.  

To be situated at the Seacroft Hospital site, the centre will be funded by Leeds Hospitals Charity. 

It is intended to centralise all MND services in the region. 

I&G managing director Christopher Carline said: “We’re extremely proud to have been entrusted to build this new centre for motor neurone disease; it’s a life-limiting condition that has a profound effect on people diagnosed, as well as their friends and family, so we’re delighted to be able to deliver a centre that puts their needs at the heart of the local community it will serve, alongside the dedicated charity who have worked tirelessly to get to this stage” 

The Rob Burrow Centre will feature clinical areas, treatment rooms, and a central space for social interaction.  

Additional facilities will include reading and quiet spaces, activity and dining areas, and outdoor spaces. 

Construction of the facility will use modern methods, incorporating structurally insulated panels manufactured off site and erected in position.  

This approach is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce construction time, and offer environmental benefits compared to traditional building techniques. 

Pending planning approval, construction on the Rob Burrow Centre is expected to commence shortly. 

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Estate Strategy and Development associate director Richard Noble said: “We’ve worked with I&G on several projects over recent years and we know they have a track record of delivering high-quality schemes at pace, so we can’t wait for them to get started and see this much-needed facility come to life.” 

I&G is continuing its collaboration with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, following other projects such as the Seacroft Community Diagnostic Centre.
